Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, aka Ari Lennox, was born in Washington, D.C. on the 26th of March on the 26th of March, 1991. She is an American artist and songwriter, as well as the first artist signed by J. Cole to his record label Dreamville Records. The label debuted her first EP titled Pho in October 2016 where she started to gain recognition. Shea Butter Baby released her first album of studio work on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox first posted music online in 2012. Her debut album Ariography and her mixtape debut in 2013 with Five Finger Discount. The singer continued uploading her music online in 2014, including the independently-released single Bound. The song Sweat it featured on Omen's Elephant Eyes album on July 21 2015. J. Cole, who was part of the Dreamville crew at that time, wanted to have her work on Rihanna and Rihanna-related songs. On December 8, she signed with Dreamville Records. Backseat was her contribution for The Revenge of the Dreamers II album. On October 21, 2016, her debut EP was released titled Pho. Ari Lennox appeared in J. Cole's Change track, and performed on with the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017. She also appeared in the music videos Nothing but the Best by EarthGang as well as Icarus together with Bas the label's co-founders. The 16th of July, 2018, Ari Lennox released the first single Whipped Cream from her debut album Shea Butter Baby with an accompanying music video, which was released on September 5. On November 9 she released two additional singles titled 40 Shades of Choke and Grampa. In November 2013 she released her debut album No One and Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby is a track she sang alongside Cole on the soundtrack to Creed II on November 16th. It then came out as a single on its own in February 2019, to coincide with the release of her debut album. It was released with a music video on February 20 2019 and surpassed 3 million views via YouTube within its first seven days. In December of 2018, she was part of The From East Atlanta With Love Tour that featured 6LACK.
